Amanda and Darren hit the Ad world (8)

Amanda and Darren hope all of you are having as much fun and having as many experiences as they are. Share some stories and give a little insight because we are halfway done!

10 pixels for eighth week:
1st:  There always has to be a reason why.
2nd:  Communication is key.
3rd:  The client world in a literal world.
4th:  Half of advertising is knowing what is going on in advertising right now.
5th:  Meetings clarify.
6th:  Idea statements help focus brainstorming.
7th:  Copy should be a conversation.
8th:  Each team has their own presenting dynamic.
9th:  Laying the concept out onto the medium being used helps understand how it’ll be presented.
10th:  Everything really is used more then once.

Highlight of the week: AD completed their first set of super boards and two magazine print ads! This was an amazing experience for the two of them.

Amanda and Darren hit the Ad world (7)

It is March! When did that happen exactly? The ad world is moving at hyper speed it seems, so lets not waste time and dive right in to AD’s list for week seven.

10 pixels for seventh week:
1st: There are a lot of acronyms in advertising lingo.
2nd: Knowledge comes from experience.
3rd: Perception is reality.
4th: We are all salesmen and women and we are constantly selling people on ourselves.
5th: Great ideas are nothing without great execution.
6th: Comfortable is not in the advertising vocabulary.
7th: In order for your life to change, you must change.
8th: Expect someone to freak-out on the subway every time it is delayed.  I mean it happens at least 4 times a week so I don’t know why it is such a surprise.
9th: New briefs turn over new leafs.
10th: Above all else keep it simple.

Highlight of the week: Being given the opportunity to work on a really homegrown client: Ontario Tourism. It is hard not to feel a little patriotic when the campaign you are working on is to promote where you live in a creative way. AD got their brains in gear to do this campaign some justice.

Amanda and Darren hit the Ad world (6)

“A man can consider himself a success when he wakes up in the morning, goes to bed at night and in between did exactly what he wanted”  - Bob Dylan
The point of being an intern is to figure out what success is to you. That is a lesson not learned in school. AD finish week six. Victory.

10 pixels for the sixth week:
1st: Passion is the greatest influencer.
2nd: Socialize with everyone.
3rd; Creativity is contagious.
4th: Inspiration can come from anywhere.
5th: Mild weather makes for a new outlook.
6th: Fresh set of eyes never fails.
7th: There is never a dull moment in the office.
8th: If you never act, you will never know for certain.
9th: Step out of your comfort zone. It will give you a new perspective.
10th: Never take yourself to seriously.

Highlight of the week:
Valentines Day Princess Margaret Hospital Fundraiser. Being involved in everything from the road hockey to conquer cancer to raising money internally with a bake sale, willing to support your clients say a lot about the type of agency Y&R is. Getting to volunteer was a great opportunity for AD to socialize and spread some work appropriate love on V-day.

Amanda and Darren hit the Ad world (5)

Amanda and Darren have reached a first, the first month that is. It’s crazy looking back over the past five weeks and seeing all that AD has experienced and learned.

10 pixels for the fifth week:
1st:  Always remain cool in stressful situations.
2nd:  You always get sick in a new work environment.
3rd:  “You’re one big idea away from fame.”
4th: Challenge your achievements.
5th:  Remember it’s a learning experience.
6th:  Always push for a better idea.
7th:  You always feel a little lonely when your partners not here.
8th:  Get a solid nights rest.
9th;  Don’t be confined to the office to brainstorm.
10th:  Humber Grads would shoot a dog too, but only with a camera.

Highlight of the week:
Y&R Town Hall meeting. Being part of an agency feels a little surreal at times. Everything that goes on is certainly exciting and there is never a lack of events hosted by the Y&R team it seems.  This particular meeting was filled with internal awards given out and a showing the current amazing work that is being done here.  AD is beginning to realize how much really goes on within the inner workings of an agency. They will continue to take it one day at a time.

Amanda and Darren hit the Ad world (4)

Amanda and Darren are back to present week 4! Let us begin.

Top 10 Pixels for the forth week:
1st:  Have heart in everything.
2nd:  When there’s a straight image, throw in a twisted line.
3rd:  Snow days happen to people in the ad world.
4th:  The advertising world is a small place so be cordial to all

(you never know who you’ll run into in the food court.)
5th:  Advertising works in 3’s.
6th:  Make goals!
7th:  Always have a BIG IDEA in mind when brainstorming.
8th:  People really do want your thoughts, feelings and opinions.
9th:  When in doubt, look at the facts.
10th:  Have fun in every situation.

Highlight of the week: Y&R Skate Night at the Air Canada Center with special guests Luke Schenn and Shae-Lynn Bourne. It’s cool to see that a workplace can have fun together beyond 9 to 5. It was a great experience for AD to be included in such a great event.

That’s a wrap. Week 5 will be over before AD know it.

Amanda and Darren hit the Ad World (3)

The one thing Amanda and Darren find interesting is how fast time flies and the fact that no matter how many cookies Darren eats, he stays the same weight. Week three is winding down so let the lessons flow.

Top 10 Pixels for the third week:

1st:  Sharing your ideas in a boardroom is not as scary as you think.
2nd:  Everyone loves Ad Week.
3rd:  Having an opinion is the best tool to brainstorm with.
4th:  Always carry a pen. The best ideas come when you don’t have one.
5th:  Money goes faster than it comes.
6th:  The life of an interns isn’t as glamorous as you think. It’s more.
7th:  Passion is the best quality you can have.
8th:  3D animated storyboards are the way of the future.
9th:  Positivity is the best way to deal with everything.
10th:  Cannes Young Lions is Back!

Highlight of the week: Seeing the Cannes Ad Reel at the Bell Lightbox. It was interesting for AD to experience Ad Week from the working world perspective as opposed to the student perspective. As AD progress in their internship the realization that some of the most creative ideas in the advertising world have been born within these walls is inspiring and a little intimidating.

AD welcomes next week’s lessons with open notebooks.
