Normally, Canadian Super Bowl viewers get stuck watching the same ads
they’d see any other day, despite the big game being the third
most-watched TV program in Canada in 2011. This year saw some changes to
that pattern on a couple fronts, with one of the most effective being
Budweiser’s “Flash Fans” spot.
Turning an average hockey game for two
local beer-league teams into a full-blown professional hockey spectacle
(complete with a packed arena, play-by-play announcers, instant replays,
confetti, and more), Budweiser created an energy-packed concept that
was really touching to watch.
On top of the millions of views the video
garnered during the airing of the Super Bowl, the YouTube video has
already been watched over two million times in the five days since it
was posted. Was it perfect? Maybe not, but it's a start; I’ve got my
fingers crossed that we see more of this type of work up here next Super
Bowl. Also, less Madonna.
